Welcome to the Sick Sad Library's Literary Center
Here is where you can find all sorts of reading recommendations, from novels to scholarly articles and everything in between. I've got lists of my favorite books and poems, archives of my reading over the years, and themed reading lists based on my interests. Where possible, I try to link to places to read things for free (especially poems, academic texts, and older texts). However, I also urge you to utilize your local library whenever possible! All humans deserve free and easy access to literature and information!
I'm a lifelong reader and literature is pretty much my life. I have a BA in English Literature, I've worked as a bookseller, currently work at a library, and am a writer myself. I don't consider myself an expert in anything, but if I were an "expert," it would be in literature. I truly believe almost anyone who wants to can hone their skills and become a sharp and discerning reader. (I'm also a huge proponent of developing your own sense of personal taste - and owning it!) If you're interested in the ins and outs of reading and writing - and some of the philosophies and theories that surround these acts - you can take a look at my "on reading and writing" subject guide which I have cultivated over years of education and personal study. Literature degrees are hardly a smart financial decision these days (I've learned that the hard way), but hopefully this list can help replicate some of the experience and wisdom that can be gained by such studies.
You can also check out my StoryGraph if you want.
